How We Support Research
Research is at the heart of everything we do. We provide critical support for faculty-led research at the University of Florida that explores the rich history, archaeology, and preservation of St. Augustine’s historic sites. By funding innovative projects, we help scholars uncover new insights into colonial-era life, architectural history, and cultural heritage, advancing knowledge that benefits both the academic community and the public.
We also invest in the next generation of historians, preservationists, and related professionals through student assistantships and internships. These hands-on opportunities allow UF students to gain practical experience in historic research, site management, and interpretation, connecting classroom learning to real-world applications. Many students working in UFHSA properties go on to careers in historic preservation, museum studies, heritage tourism, or related fields, extending the impact of our programs far beyond the campus. In addition to these areas of focus, UFHA also supports researchers and students working in many diverse fields including sea level rise and resiliency, urban landscapes, art/art history, performing arts, and communications, among other fields.
While supporting research and teaching, UFHSA has also sponsored scholarly publications, helping disseminate new findings to a wider audience. These publications ensure that the results of our research are shared broadly, fostering a deeper understanding of St. Augustine’s heritage and reinforcing the University of Florida’s role as a leader in historic preservation and academic scholarship.
